Men’s Hockey Recruit Roundup

We’re just over halfway through the 2025-26 college hockey season, but recruiting season never stops. Northeastern has added five players since the puck dropped in early October. In total, 24 players are verbally committed to Northeastern as of this writing. Let’s take a look at how each player is doing this year in their respective teams. Players are sorted alphabetically by position (forward, defenseman, goalie), all stats as of 1/29/26.

Forwards

Cameron Caron– The Dracut, MA, committed to Northeastern on August 1st, 2023, and has been playing this year for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. After a successful year scoring 32 points (12 goals) in 41 games for the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles, Caron came back to the States. The Lancers have long been one of the most dysfunctional organizations in junior hockey, let alone just the USHL, but Caron has bounced around the lineup to the tune of 12 points (5 goals) in 39 games, tied for sixth on the team, and added 80 penalty minutes after 64 last year with Surrey, showing that he may be adding some more snarl and jam to his game. He is projected for enrollment in 2027.

Cole ChandlerCommitting in July 2025 just a few weeks after being drafted in the fifth round by the Boston Bruins, Chandler continues to improve in his third year for Shawinigan in the QMJHL. He’s already exceeded last year’s 32 point total in far fewer games, coming in at 39 points (15 goals) in just 43 games. He is fourth on the team in scoring and sits 41st in the QMJHL in overall scoring. Chandler could possibly enroll in Fall 2026 depending on Northeastern’s roster needs but we feel like it’s more likely he will arrive in Fall 2027 after one more year of even further growth in the QMJHL.

Connor Davis– The late ’06 Quebecois right wing committed to Northeastern in September 2024. He is in his first full year with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders after following what we affectionate call the Hryckowian track: the Lac St-Lions program in Quebec, to Salisbury School (prep), to Cedar Rapids. Davis has 27 points (13 goals) in 34 games, an excellent first year in the USHL, good for fifth-best on Cedar Rapids. He is projected for 2027 enrollment.

Haeden EllisEllis also committed on August 1st, 2023, and is in his second season with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. Largely playing in their middle six this year, he has 20 points (9 goals) in 42 games, surpassing last year’s totals of 9 points in 36 games in largely bottom line minutes. Ellis is a center who is expected to return to the OHL next year, and assume even more responsibility in his third OHL year. We currently project him for enrollment in 2027.

Trey JefferisCommitting just under a year ago in late March 2025, Jefferis is in his third year with Sioux City in the USHL, and was predicted to be a breakout player for the Musketeers. He has answered that call strongly, with a career-high 40 points (22 goals) in just 35 games, besting last year’s mark of 33 points (14 goals) in 47 games where he earned the nickname “Shorthanded Assassin” after scoring 5 shorthanded goals. He is tied for tenth in USHL scoring this year, and tied for 4th in goals (and once again has 4 goals shorthanded). Jefferis will enroll to Northeastern in Fall 2026.

Liam KilfoilA big commitment out of the QMJHL in late September 2025, Kilfoil is in his third season with the Halifax Mooseheads. He’s on pace to be right around last year’s point production, with 29 points (10 goals) in 39 games, fourth-best on the team. Kilfoil has an excellent prospect pedigree, having represented Canada at the World Juniors, Hlinka-Gretzky, and World Hockey Championship tournaments. The former second round QMJHL pick has immense upside as a center or left wing, and is projected to enroll in 2027 at 20 years old.

Maxime LafondCommitting just two weeks after Kilfoil, Lafond parlayed a hot start earlier this year into a scholarship with the Huskies and is slated for 2027 after he exhausts his eligibility for the QMJHL. He has been playing for the Drummondville this year after bouncing around leagues last season, and has responded to his homecoming with a career-best 38 points (10 goals) in 44 games, second-best for Drummondville. A playmaker more than a scorer, the 6-foot-5 power forward will add a different element to the Huskies’ roster with his size when he arrives.

Nathan LecompteOne of the newer commits to Northeastern, Lecompte committed just after the season started in October. A former first round pick in the QMJHL Draft in 2023, Lecompte is in his third year playing for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Similar to his other fellow commits, he has already outpaced his production last year, with 52 points (23 goals) in just 42 games, beating last year’s 49 point total in 14 fewer games. Lecompte is currently tied for 15th in league scoring with Nathan Quinn (seen below), and is second on Chicoutimi in scori ng. We feel he would project for Fall 2026 however in Ryan Sikes’ recent interview with associate head coach Mike Levine, it’s reported that Lecompte is part of Fall 2027.

Eric Lund– The younger brother of former Northeastern star forward Cam Lund, Eric committed to Northeastern in May 2025. The Bridgewater native finished his prep career at Cushing Academy and this year is in his first year with Alberni Valley of the BCHL, scoring 9 points (6 goals) in 35 games. An ’06 birth year, Lund is projected to arrive in 2027 when his juniors eligibility runs out.

Owen McHale– The first of three August 1, 2025 commits that we will discuss, McHale was the third player to commit that day, joining Brian McFadden and Noah Survilas (both below). The Charlestown, MA native plays for Dexter Southfield in the prep circuit, and has been the leading scoring forward for them with 29 points (17 goals) in just 19 games. A throwback-style of player with increased physicality and a power forward game, McHale is expected to enroll in 2028 after a couple seasons of junior hockey, potentially in the QMJHL where he was drafted by Chicoutimi or the USHL.

Ben Miller– The elder statesman of the Northeastern pipeline, Miller committed to the Huskies back in August 2022 while still in high school in Minnesota. Since then, his hockey journey has been a struggle with injuries setting back his development and affecting his production. Miller is currently playing for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL where he has 2 points (1 goal) in 27 games. An ’06 birth year, we have him currently projected to enroll in 2027.

Nathan QuinnQuinn committed to Northeastern just five days before Jefferis did, and his commitment made some big waves in the recruiting world. Quinn was a 6th round pick by Philadelphia in the 2025 NHL Draft, and is in his third season playing for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. A play-driving center, Quinn has been the top-line center for Quebec all year, producing 52 points (25 goals) in just 40 games, leading the team in scoring and tying him with Lecompte in the league scoring race at 15th. Just like Lecompte, he would fit in well at Northeastern if he enrolled in 2026, but the possibility of deferral to 2027 does remain as per Sikes’ interview.

Noah Survilas– McHale’s teammate at Dexter, Survilas committed on August 1st, 2025, and briefly considered making the jump to the QMJHL to play with Moncton before returning to Dexter for his junior season. A very late ’08 birth year, the Winthrop, MA native has been a point-per-game player for Dexter with 21 points (9 goals) in 20 games. He also did make his QMJHL debut in emergency callup duty, playing two games and notching an assist. Drafted by Muskegon in the 2024 USHL Futures Draft, Survilas will have options on where to play at his next stop, likely next season. We currently have him projected for 2028 arrival with McHale but given his late ’08 birth year, would not be surprised if he waited until 2029. He is eligible for the NHL Draft in 2027.

Tommy Wilkinson– The newest forward commit to Northeastern’s pipeline, Wilkinson is currently playing at Thayer Academy with defenseman commit Brian McFadden. He committed just before Christmas 2025. The son of former Northeastern forward Geoff Wilkinson, Tommy is another ’08 birth year and has played for both Thayer and the East Coast Militia 18U team this year, putting up 47 points in 43 games between the two. Undrafted in the QMJHL or USHL, we would expect him to potentially finish his Thayer career before moving to junior hockey, and enroll to Northeastern in 2028 or 2029.

Defensemen

Nathan BirchThe lone player to commit to Northeastern on August 1, 2024 on this report, Birch is a right-shot defenseman from Quebec and has been playing for the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL this year. He recently joined the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions of the QCHL, and has 8 points (6 goals) in 6 games with them after 1 point in 9 games with the Remparts. An offensive defenseman, look for Birch to get on the right track and enroll in Fall 2028.

Garrett FrazerCommitting in November 2023, Frazer has been part of the Huskies’ pipeline longer than any other blueliner. The Virginia native has been playing in the OHL for the last two years after some short stops in the NAHL, USHL, and BCHL. He found a home in Erie for the Otters and was traded to Peterborough earlier this year at the trade deadline. More of a responsible defensive defenseman than a points-getter, he has 13 points (2 goals) in 46 games this year between the two teams. He’s going to enroll Fall 2026.

Marcus Kearsey– Committing to Northeastern on July 4, 2025, Kearsey’s commitment sparked some fireworks as he’s been a central figure for the Charlottetown Islanders defensive corps. A two-time captain, he is on pace to surpass his career high in points (49), having put up 36 points (12 goals) in 44 games. His 36 points are third-best on the Islanders and are 5th-best among defensemen in the QMJHL. The 12 goals is a career high for him as well. Kearsey can play both sides of the defensive pair, and will enroll in Fall 2026.

Owen Keefe– The son of Northeastern head coach Jerry Keefe, Owen committed to Northeastern in February 2024, flipping from Boston University. He went north to Drummondville to play in the QMJHL this year after playing over 175 USHL games. In 44 games with Drummondville, Keefe has 27 points (5 goals), and has gotten more time to develop his offensive game in that league while also being an assistant captain for the Voltigeurs. The Saugus native will enroll in Fall 2026.

Noah Laberge– It was a very happy start to the new year for Northeastern when Laberge committed to the Huskies for Fall 2026 on January 1st. A fifth round pick by Buffalo in the 2025 NHL Draft, Laberge has been playing for the Newfoundland Regiment this season after two years with Acadie-Bathurst. He’s got 37 points (6 goals) in 42 games, sitting fourth among QMJHL defensemen in scoring, just ahead of Kearsey. He plays big minutes for Newfoundland, and like Kearsey can play on either side of the defensive pairing.

Leo LaschonLaschon joined the Huskies pipeline when he committed September 2025. A defensive defenseman who holds the fort down and shuts down opposing players, he has 3 points (1 goal) in 28 games this year for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. He’s only taken two minor penalties this year, and his -8 +/- rating is actually one of the better ones on the team as Oshawa has struggled this year. A March ’08 birth year, we currently have him projected for enrollment in Fall 2027 but he easily could be deferred to 2028 if needed.

Brian McFaddenThe third of the August 1, 2025 commits on this list, McFadden has been running the blue line at Thayer Academy this year with Tommy Wilkinson up front. McFadden has 9 points (1 goal) in 17 games, and his massive frame (6-foot-5,180 pounds) helps him profile as a shutdown defenseman with puck skills to be able to move the puck out of the zone, and be a player capable of stopping opposing rushes and starting his own. Ranked as a potential 4th-6th round pick in the latest NHL Central Scouting rankings, we are looking for McFadden to get taken in the NHL Draft this June. He was drafted by Saint John in the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft so he has a potential destination once his prep days are done. He projects for enrollment in 2028.

Loic Nasreddine– Committing a couple days after Birch in 2024, Nasreddine comes to the Northeastern pipeline out of the Dallas Stars Elite junior program and currently plays for the Lone Star Brahmas in the NAHL, after starting the year with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL. He has 6 points (2 goals) in 11 games with Lone Star, and profiles as an good skater who can move the puck, rather than being a scorer himself. We currently have him projected for Fall 2027 but like Laschon he could be deferred to 2028.

Jordan TourignyThe latest commit to the Huskies pipeline, Tourigny has been one of the most reliable point-scoring defensemen in the QMJHL the last few years. He has three seasons of 40+ points with the Shawinigan Cataractes under his belt and is on pace for a fourth one, finishing this year with Chicoutimi where he is teammates with Nathan Lecompte. He has 33 points (7 goals) in 38 games this year, including 10 points in 10 games since joining Chicoutimi. Tourigny will enroll Fall 2026 and profiles as someone who can take over some of the responsibility vacated with Vinny Borgesi graduating, both offensively at even strength and on the powerplay, as well as playing heavy minutes.

Goalie

Samuel Meloche– The lone goaltender in the pipeline is Samuel Meloche, who committed to Northeastern in September 2025. A 4th round pick by Buffalo in the 2025 NHL Draft, Meloche is in his second full year with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL. He has played in 36 games, to the tune of a 22-11-3 record, a .887 save percentage and 3.02 goals-against-average. He is third in the league in games played, wins, and leads the league in minutes. He does not have a shutout yet this year but had five last season. Rouyn-Noranda is in the hunt for the QMJHL West title, and Meloche playing heavy minutes is setting himself up to potentially take over the net in 2027 after Lawton Zacher graduates. With another year and a half to work on the finer points of his game, we expect Meloche to be competing for the starting role right away when he enrolls.

Long-time readers will know that recruiting and roster building is one of our favorite things about college sports and college hockey. It’s always great to see how these recruits are developing, and seeing who is fulfilling the promise and potential seen in them at the time of their commitment. Among these names are players who will eventually become program-defining players, and players who will play key roles for Northeastern in the future. It’s exciting to speculate and eventually see who those players will be.

As always, go Huskies!
