Forward Trey Jefferis Commits to Northeastern

The recruiting grind never stops, even in the early offseason, as Wednesday evening news broke that Northeastern received a commitment from Trey Jefferis, a ’05 center currently playing for Sioux City in the USHL.

Jefferis is a 5-foot-10 190 pound left shot forward from Pennsylvania. He is in his second season with Sioux City, where he is teammates with 2025 recruits Giacomo Martino and Owen Keefe. On the latest line chart, he is listed as linemates with Martino on the opposite wing. It is his first full season in the USHL, and he has scored 29 points (13 goals) in 41 games. Last season he played 14 games for Springfield in the NAHL before joining Sioux City mid-season. He was previously committed to Sacred Heart, where he committed to in 2022.

Jefferis has made a living this year on the penalty kill for Sioux City, where he has 5 shorthanded goals, second-best in the USHL, and 3 shorthanded assists, best in the league. He is rated a 3.75 star recruit by Neutral Zone scouting services. Neutral Zone scouting reports describe Jefferis as a “waterbug” with a motor that never stops, a hallmark of recruiting in the Jerry Keefe era. NZ further states that he “gets low and establishes a sound base making it hard for larger players to knock him off the puck.” He drives the net hard, embraces contact, and makes smart 200 foot decisions. NZ profiles him more as a defensive player, and his InStat data from PuckPreps supports this, however the data also suggests there’s an offensive ability in his game that is untapped and underappreciated. His offensive game is described as a quick release and a powerful, accurate shot, and his willingness to get to the crease can help create second chance points.

Jefferis projects to us as a bottom six forward at the college level who will be a fixture on the Northeastern penalty kill. I liken his profile to former Huskies assistant captain John Picking. With one year of junior eligibility left he is projected for arrival at Northeastern in 2026.

Congratulations to Trey on his commitment to Northeastern!

As always, go Huskies!
