After garnering their first ’08 commitment from Nathan Birch on August 1st, Northeastern needed only two days before getting their second in the form of Loic Nasreddine, who posted his commitment on August 3rd.
Nasreddine is a left-shot defenseman who stands 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. He currently plays for the Dallas Stars Elite program in Texas, a youth program and region that Northeastern rarely dips into for talent. This past year for Dallas Stars Elite 15U AAA, Nasreddine had 53 points (17 goals) in 69 games across two levels of competition. Prior to Dallas he played for the Notre Dame Hounds youth program in Canada when he lived in Quebec. He was selected in the ninth round of the USHL Draft by the Des Moines Buccaneers, as well as the seventh round by Moncton in the QMJHL Draft, however his commitment to Northeastern points strongly to him going the collegiate round rather than Major Junior. Nasreddine’s father is Alain Nasreddine, current assistant coach for the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and former NHLer with four organizations. He was born in Germany while Alain played in the DEL, Germany’s top professional league.
Nasreddine has immense upside to be a top pairing defenseman for the Huskies in the future. He is a competitor every shift, and is tough to play against. His excellent skating allows him to play with tight gaps and defend well in transition. While not overly aggressive with physicality, he uses a good stick and good body position to win puck battles and defend his own zone. With the puck on his stick, he excels in getting pucks out of his own zone quickly and efficiently, and moves the puck from tape to tape efficiently.
We currently project that Nasreddine will arrive in 2027 with fellow ’08 commit Nathan Birch to form a foundation for the Huskies’ blue line of the future. This will allow Nasreddine, who is not even eligible for the NHL Draft until 2028, to play three years of junior hockey, including likely 1-2 years in the USHL, before enrolling, and he would then play his draft year on Huntington Avenue.
Congratulations to Loic on his commitment to Northeastern! We look forward to watching his development over the next few years ahead of him arriving in Boston.
As always, go Huskies!
