Northeastern Incoming Class Announced, Numbers Assigned

On Thursday, Northeastern announced their 11-person incoming class for the Fall of 2022. The announcement aligned with what we had on our roster projection page. The incoming players also chose their numbers for the upcoming season. We will repeat our New To Northeastern series in the weeks ahead of the season breaking down each of the position groups with scouting reports and projections for each player.

Forwards

Cameron Lund. The prize of the incoming class will wear number 12. The last player to wear 12 for Northeastern was defenseman Tommy Miller, a stalwart on the blue line his lone year in Boston.

Liam Walsh– One of two transfers joining the Huskies this season, Walsh will continue to wear the same number 14 that he wore at Merrimack for three seasons including his year as an assistant captain. 14 has previously been worn at NU by Ty Jackson, Austin Plevy, and Garret Cockerill.

Jack Williams. The Maine product will wear number 15, the same number he wore in juniors. Number 15 has an excellent recent legacy at Northeastern, including being worn by Dylan Jackson, Grant Jozefek, Kevin Roy, and Brodie Reid in the last decade-plus.

Anthony Messuri. The local kid who helped Arlington High School dominate the Super 8 tournament will wear number 28, the same number worn by former captain Zach Solow and Ryan Rosenthal.

Defensemen

Hunter McDonald. Big Mac will sport number 5 for Northeastern, last worn by forward Matt Choupani who has changed to number 9. Number 5 had a legacy of success at Northeastern, being worn by former captain Ryan Shea and former assistant captain Matt Benning.

Jackson Dorrington. A Bio-Steel All American while playing in the USHL and recent draft pick of Vancouver, Dorrington will sport number 8, previously worn by Julian Kislin, Adam Gaudette, and Adam Reid.

Braden Doyle. Our second transfer, coming from Boston University, Doyle will sport the same number 17 that he wore in his short stint on Commonwealth Avenue. He carries the number’s tradition fostered by Marco Bozzo, Matt Filipe, and Torin Snydeman.

Vinny Borgesi. The offensive defenseman from Philadelphia will sport number 22, previously worn at NU by Billy Carrabino, Tanner Pond, and Greg Costa.

Kyle Furey. The last defenseman of the incoming class will wear number 24, previously worn by Steven Agriogianis, AJ Villella, and current director of hockey operations Mike Jamieson.

Goaltenders

Harrison Chesney. One of two incoming goaltenders to bolster to corps behind Devon Levi, Chesney will adorn number 35, breaking a nearly two decade streak of inactivity for that number among Northeastern players. The last player to wear 35 was goaltender Tim Heneroty in the 2003-2004 season.

Grant Riley. The second new freshman incoming goalie will sport number 37, last worn by goaltender Chris Rawlings.

As we mentioned in the introduction we will have a specific series of articles next month looking at each player group and seeing what each player will bring to the Huskies. We will also keep following the recruiting trail and have articles on any commitments the Huskies gain as we move full-speed ahead towards the home opener on October 1st.

Hockey season is almost here. As always, go Huskies!
