Northeastern Men’s Hockey announced which players will comprise their leadership core for the upcoming season with letters on their chest, led by Jack Williams being named captain of the Huskies. He is the 91st player to be bestowed the honor of the captaincy in program history.
A former captain of the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL and someone who at times wore the A last season, Williams is someone we have had marked as a future captain for the last 3-4 years, even before he arrived at Northeastern. His consistent effort, his willingness to adapt his style to the team needs, and the passion that he plays with every shift has endeared him to teammates, coaches, and fans alike, and we could not be more thrilled to see him rewarded with the captaincy for this upcoming season. He is the second consecutive junior captain for Northeastern, succeeding Justin Hryckowian, who was the first junior captain since Josh Manson one decade earlier.
Joining Williams with letters on their chest this season are juniors Vinny Borgesi, Jackson Dorrington, Cam Lund, and graduate student Jake Boltmann. Borgesi also wore an A at times last season, and has been an on-ice leader for the Huskies in multiple ways since his freshman season. Dorrington and Lund have both played major roles for the team since arriving on Huntington Avenue and are expected to play even larger parts in the team’s success this season, with Dorrington stepping up into the role vacated by Hunter McDonald and Lund expected to ascend to the next level of stardom after two strong seasons.
Boltmann transferred to Northeastern after four years at Notre Dame, where he was an assistant captain his senior season as well. He’s someone who has been seen as a leader both on and off the ice with his rugged, defense-first style of play. He’s the first graduate transfer to wear a letter at Northeastern since Tommy Miller in 2021-22, and the fourth transfer to be given a letter in the last five seasons (the others being Liam Walsh and Jakov Novak).
These five players will be the core that sets the standard for Northeastern hockey in 2024-25, looking to continue elevating the standards set by the captains and leaders before them. Starting with Charles Kerins in 1929-30, to all-time program great Art Chisholm, in 1959-60, to recent Hockey Hall of Fame inductee David Poile captaining two teams in the late 1960s, to Beanpot and Northeastern legends like Jim Averill and David O’Brien in the 1980s, to former assistant coach and All-American Jason Guerriero in 2003-05, to Stanley Cup champion Josh Manson in 2013-14, the lineage of Northeastern captains is littered with outstanding players who proved to be even better leaders and people. I am thrilled to see Jack Williams be the latest to carry that legacy. The Huskies are in good hands with Williams and his peers leading them through the season.
As always, go Huskies!
