Tuesday night, news broke that Northeastern has garnered its latest verbal commitment for its pipeline in Tanner Morgan, a 2006 birth year from Pennsylvania, who has played the last two seasons for Mount St. Charles Academy, a hockey factory in Rhode Island that has been producing elite talent for many years.
Per his Elite Prospects page, Morgan is a 5-foot-10, 175 pound left shot forward. He will turn 18 years old next month. He just finished his senior season with Mount St. Charles. Last season with their 18U program. In 54 games at the 18U AAA level he had 38 points (16 goals) in 54 games. Last year at the 16U level he had 39 points in 56 games. He also played lacrosse at Mount. Prior to Mount St. Charles, he played for the Nashville Jr Predators program where he was a near point-per-game producer. He also has been an alumni of USA Hockey Selects camps and showcases. He made his debut in Tier 2 Junior Hockey last year with the Shreveport Mudbugs as well. He is the son of Gavin Morgan, who had a prolific career in the American Hockey League as well as six games with the Dallas Stars of the NHL. Gavin played college hockey at Denver and was an assistant coach at the University of Alabama-Huntsville for nine years before moving to Shreveport in a player development role.
Morgan profiles as a likely bottom six center for the Huskies in the future. Considered a “complete player,” scouting reports from Puck Preps describe Morgan as being willing to play a physical game but also having the shooting ability to score. He does not shy away from the high danger chances on the ice, including the slot and the corners, and he competes for every loose puck near him.
Given that he only just made his NAHL debut and he’s been at the prep level, I would expect Morgan to likely enroll to Northeastern in Fall 2026, after completing two years of junior hockey to prepare for the level of competitiveness in Hockey East. As his career continues to develop we will cover every angle ahead of his arrival to Huntington Avenue.
Congratulations to Tanner on his commitment to Northeastern!
As always, go Huskies!
