While the Northeastern hockey season (and all winter athletics) hit a detour in being delayed until December 18th, the Northeastern hockey recruiting trail picked up in a big way Wednesday afternoon when the Huskies garnered the verbal commitment of Cameron Lund, a 2004 birth year center from Bridgewater, MA.
Lund is currently at Cushing Academy where he is teammates with recent Northeastern commitment Jackson Dorrington. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds, and is a right-handed shot. Already with pro-level height, there’s plenty of time for him to pack on some muscle ahead of his enrollment to college.
After his commitment hit the social media circles, Lund was lauded by scout and coach accounts, including “one of the top players in the country,” “dangerous every time he touches the puck,” and “skilled, smart offensive playmaker.”
This season, Lund is playing for the Boston Jr. Bruins of the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC), where he has tallied 4 goals and 6 assists in thirteen games. Dorrington is his teammate with the Bruins as well. Last year for Cushing he had 32 points (6 goals) in 34 games.
No stranger to being a high-profile player, Lund has already been selected in the second round of the United States Hockey League Futures Draft by Green Bay, as well as the first round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League American Draft by the Moncton Wildcats. While seeing any commit get taken highly by a Major Juniors team will give fans pause, given his connection with Dorrington, his early commitment to the Huskies, and his local ties, there’s no reason at this time to suspect Lund may jump north of the border to the CHL.
As a high-round pick in the USHL Futures Draft, we would expect Lund to start the 2021 season in Green Bay, and play 2 seasons ahead of matriculation to Northeastern in 2022 as a true freshman. Should he and the coaches decide it’s best, he also could be pushed to 2023 when the time comes.
