2025 Transfer Portal Updates

The Men’s Hockey Transfer Portal opened officially on March 30th and as of this writing we already have over 120 players in the portal looking for a new home for next season. The portal will remain open until May 13th. Players can still commit to schools after the portal closes as long as they entered prior to the deadline.

Like many schools that are opting into the House/NCAA settlement, Northeastern has to cut its roster down to make the 26-man roster cap. Our personal opinion, shared by many in the sport both as fans and those who work in it, is that the 26-player cap is much too low for hockey, and there’s hope that the number may rise in the future. For now though, the rules are the rules, and decisions must be made accordingly.

As players from Northeastern enter the portal, we will have all news covered via Twitter @NUHockeyBlog, and we will do our best to keep this page updated as well. We wish all players that enter the portal the best in their future hockey endeavors and in the next steps of their hockey journeys.

March 30

  • Ben Poitras– Poitras was the first player to enter the portal for the Huskies. Coming off a freshman year where he played in 31 games, he scored 3 points (1 goal), with his first collegiate goal coming against Boston College in the Beanpot. Poitras averaged just over 8 minutes of ice time a game, largely in bottom-six minutes. He had some time on the powerplay but struggled overall with consistency in the time he got.
    New team: Brown
  • Michael Fisher– A unique portal case, Fisher is currently playing for Penticton of the BCHL. A third round pick of San Jose in 2022, he played one season at Northeastern and scored 2 points (1 goal). He had lost his Draft Year +1 season in the USHL prior to enrolling to a serious knee injury, costing him valuable game reps and experience. The plan was always for him to come back to Northeastern after playing in Penticton, and the Vees had his college commitment marked as NU all year. We’ve heard rumors he may wind up in the Ivy League- he was originally a Princeton commit.
    New team: Cornell

March 31

  • Marc Lund– Lund never saw game action in his one season on Huntington Avenue. He enters the portal with all four years of eligibility preserved.
    New team:

April 1

  • Nick Rhéaume– Rhéaume played one year at NU after transferring to Northeastern from UMass-Lowell, where he played his first two collegiate seasons. He scored 4 points (2 goals) while playing in all 37 games. He never found the scoring streak that he experienced as a sophomore but he proved to be an asset on the penalty kill, in front of the net as a big body strong on his skates, and had the flexibility to play up and down the lineup.
    New team:
  • Billy Norcross– The sophomore winger was in and out of the lineup but over two years at Northeastern totaled 48 games, and racked up 5 assists. As a freshman we described his game as “tornado-like” in a good way, and he definitely can find a role as a physical bottom six winger at a new school.
    New team:

April 2nd

  • Harrison Chesney– Northeastern’s third string goalie for the past three years, Chesney made his debut as a sophomore at RPI. He leaves Northeastern with a 1.000 save percentage and will graduate with a degree in business administration later this Spring.
    New team:

April 9th

  • Seth Constance– The freshman defenseman played in 36 of 37 games for NU, registering 1 assist. Constance was always billed as a defense-first, break the puck out type of defenseman rather than an offensive force. We could see him landing at an ECAC school and potentially unlocking some more offensive output.
    New team: Colorado College
