Northeastern’s scorching hot February on the recruiting trail reached its peak on Wednesday when they landed their fourth verbal commitment in a week, and this one came from a familiar source as forward Renaud Poulin, currently playing for the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the QMJHL, committed to Northeastern for the 2027-28 season. Poulin is teammates with fellow Northeastern commits Owen Keefe and Maxime Lafond in Drummondville.
Poulin is a 5-foot-11, 180 pound right shot right winger from Nicolet, Quebec, Canada. A late ’06, he is in his third full season with Drummondville and has smashed his previous career high in scoring, with 45 points (26 goals) in 53 games so far, both career bests. He has been been an assistant captain for the Volts this season as well. Prior to the QMJHL he played his youth hockey in Quebec with Trois-Rivières, and played in the Memorial Cup with Drummondville in 2024 during his QMJHL rookie season.
A 3.75-star recruit as rated by Neutral Zone, Poulin has traits similar to most bonafide goal scorers. He has a good sense of positioning, working himself into the soft areas of the ice so that if he gets the puck on his stick he can fire it on net quickly. NZ adds “his ability to control the puck in tight spaces is an asset, allowing him to create his own space and navigate through triangles…his ability to jump into plays and use his quick speed to create separation is a useful asset…Poulin has a catch and release shot that has a good amount of zip behind it.” NZ further adds “Poulin’s offense is characterized by a willingness to engage in play and create space for himself and others. Elite Prospects scouting adds that he likes to use his speed to break through the defense.
Poulin is set to enroll in 2027 after his overage year in the QMJHL, likely with Drummondville again. This is a similar path to his teammate, fellow forward Maxime Lafond, who is also set to enroll in 2027. Poulin profiles as someone who may start around the third line but could certainly play up with his goal-scoring ability. Expect next season to see an even bigger scoring output in his final QMJHL season ahead of enrolling to Huntington Avenue.
Congratulations to Renaud on his commitment to Northeastern.
As always, go Huskies!
