Vinny Borgesi Commits to Northeastern

Late on Monday morning, we saw a tweet come by our timeline that mentioned “Northeastern commit Vinny Borgesi,” which was a new name for us. Unbeknownst to us here at the NHB, Vinny committed to the Huskies back in December 2018! Somehow the commitment announcement seems to have slipped through the cracks, and we are here to rectify this injustice. Congratulations to Vinny on his commitment to the Huskies! The following tweet is from the St. Joseph’s Prep Twitter account:

There was also an announcement article from the Valley Forge Minutemen, the Bantam team that Borgesi plays for in Pennsylvania. In the article, his coach compliments his game, saying “Vinny is a special hockey player. His intensity level and love for the game is contagious. He instantly sets the tempo every time he steps onto the ice for practice and games. The best part of his game is that he competes on a consistent basis and has fun doing it…Vin’s hockey IQ is off the charts. His work ethic is incredible everyday.” The article also makes mention that Borgesi caught the eye of “some of the top Division I Boston hockey programs,” which lends some credence to the idea that at least one of Northeastern’s Beanpot rivals was also pursuing the commitment of the young defenseman.

According to Elite Prospects, Borgesi is a 5-foot-8, 140 pound right-shot defenseman. Of course, being only 15 years old, there is plenty of room to grow that frame as he works towards college hockey. The Scouting News (subscription required) had Borgesi pegged as a player to watch in 2019-2020 season. Fresh off a goal at USA Hockey Select-15 camp over the summer, Vinny will play for the Selects Academy U15 team this upcoming season, where he’s already made his mark with game winning goals in both the semifinals and finals in the ECC Labor Day Cup!

Assuming he’d enroll at the earliest possible time, Borgesi would be 18 for the start of the 2022-23 season. So we would project his enrollment as likely for that year with a chance of 2023-24, where he would theoretically join ’05 forward Will Smith as a member of that recruiting class. It is very far out obviously from those decisions being finalized, so we will monitor his progress as it nears.

Congratulations to Vinny and his family! Follow us on Twitter for all the latest Huskies news @NUHockeyBlog. As always, Go Huskies!
