Women’s Incoming Class Roundup ’25-26

It’s that time of year again. We’ve officially arrived at hockey season. With Northeastern’s women’s team starting (official) play tomorrow against the RIT Tigers, there’s no better time to get a brief rundown on the new additions to the team. Unlike last year, the Huskies brought in no transfers but had a rather large incoming freshman class.

Alessia Baechler – D

The Huskies have found a new Swiss Miss with the addition of Baechler, who plays for the Swiss National Team with the legendary Alina Muller. The Northeastern connections don’t end there, with Baechler having also been able to play with Skylar Fontaine while at ZSC Lions in the previous two seasons. She comes highly touted after proving her point-scoring ability and lockdown defense amongst high-level competition, having won Defender of the Year in 2025. As a 20-year-old freshman, the Huskies will hope she can make an immediate impact on the team.

Ella Lloyd – D

Another new D edition, Lloyd comes from up north, having played with the Barrie Sharks of the OWHL last season. Lloyd will have a much bigger adjustment ahead of her when it comes to the competition level. We did get our first look at her in action in the Huskies’ exhibition game against USports national champions Concordia. In that game, she was slotted second pairing alongside junior Rylie Jones. She managed to notch an assist and carried a +3 out of the game, which is a great early sign. With a background in captaining multiple of her teams, she will no doubt be a valuable locker room addition.

Molly MacCurtain – F

The first local player on our list, MacCurtain comes from multiple seasons with the East Coast Wizards U19 team. She also spent four years playing for the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham. She has a history of playing on dominant teams wherever she’s gone, which bodes well for her tenure with the Huskies. If the team is to have success in the future, they need contributions further down the lineup sheet, and Flint will no doubt use MacCurtain to fill out the scoresheet as she adjusts to the pace of play in college hockey.

Lexi Mara – D

Mara also got some good experience in the exhibition, being paired with veteran Kristina Allard on the 3rd defensive pair. The tall local defender spent time with Assabet Valley before committing to join the Huskies this fall. She has been invited to multiple Team USA hockey camps, which have given her a look at higher-quality competition ahead of time. The Huskies hope to get extra length out of her at D, and I would not be surprised to see her maintain paired with one of the shorter defenders on the roster.

Emy McDermid – F

McDermid is an incredibly fast forward who comes from prep hockey in Canada. With Kelowna’s U18 team, she put up impressive numbers, with 129 points in 93 games over her last three years. She was a standout in the exhibition game last week, constantly getting involved in plays and backchecking well on defense. It is honestly impressive she only finished the game with 1 point, given the number of chances she created both for herself and others. The Huskies will hope that game is indicative of the way she will play going forward, but early signs are promising.

Renna Trembecky – G

Trembecky comes to Northeastern to complete the Huskies’ stacked goaltending room. Although it may be hard for her to find playing time until Jonsson has moved on, she is more than capable of winning the job early. Trembecky is undersized even by women’s goaltending standards, but she plays with an agility and positioning that would have you thinking she is of much larger stature. She posted a .922 save percentage with Sherwood Park’s U18 team last year and made some jaw-dropping stops. Of this incoming class, she is the player I’m most excited to watch.

Stryker Zablocki – F

The highest regarded of the Huskies’ incoming class has to be Team Canada U18 standout Stryker Zablocki. In her 12 games at World Juniors, the forward notched 19 points, including a tournament-leading 12 in last year’s tournament. Zablocki has absurd shot and skating speed. She makes moving the puck look too easy. Northeastern fans got their first taste of her upside as she netted 2 goals in the Concordia exhibition game. She will be an immediate contributor at NU and has a ceiling that could rival any of the best players we have seen come through the program. Only time will tell if she reaches this potential, but Huskies fans will no doubt be expecting a strong showing in her first year.

Brigitte Aube – F

Lastly, but certainly not least, is the latest edition we’ve seen to the Huskies roster. Aube is the only non-freshman in this incoming class, having come up from the Northeastern club hockey team. She netted 19 points in her 15-game freshman campaign at the ACHA level. The Connecticut native was a surprise addition to most, only being named to the roster after the exhibition game. It will be hard to tell her play level until we can see it on the ice, but it takes a good amount of skill to catch the eye of the coaching staff while playing at the club level.

As always, go Huskies!
