Northeastern Picks Up Forward Commit Steven Agriogianis

Yesterday, Northeastern added another forward to the recruiting class of Fall 2020. ’99 right wing Steven Agriogianis announced on his Twitter page that he will be joining the Huskies for his hockey future.

Agriogianis a 5-foot-10, 170 pound right shot and is currently playing in the British Columbia Hockey League for the Nanaimo Clippers, where he is an assistant captain. He has 39 points (17 goals) in 51 games this season, good for the 4th-highest scorer on the team, and was named the team’s forward of the year. He currently has 3 points in 2 playoff games, as Nanaimo is up early in their first round series. Nanaimo features players who have also committed to Cornell and Bowling Green.

He previously had committed to Penn State University in 2015 as a 16 year old thriving in the North Jersey Avalanche program, where he averaged almost 2 points per game at the 16U level. He spent some time in the United States Hockey League with Cedar Rapids, Omaha, Central Illinois, and Lincoln. He has also played games for Team USA.

When he committed to Penn State in 2015, scouts said Agriogianis “makes smart, heady passes, he’s relentless on pucks and he seems to be in the right place at the right time…he’s an adequate skater who projects as a solid third or fourth liner at the next level.” This sounds like the type of player who can thrive in Jim Madigan and Jerry Keefe’s system, and play an important part in the Huskies’ success for the next four years.

Agriogianis also received praise from the Clippers’ coaching and executive staff. Head Coach Daren Taylor said that “The Clippers season turned around at the same time Steven joined us at the Chilliwack showcase. He is such a determined player who plays with passion and is always wanting the puck. His work ethic is fantastic on and off the ice. He is a student of the game who is always in the video room and asking questions.

A strong hockey mind with a tireless work ethic is one of the hallmarks of a modern Northeastern player, and it appears that Agriogianis will fill fit right in at Matthews Arena. Congratulations to Steven on his commitment, and we look forward to seeing him on the ice in the Fall!
